15 years helping Saskatchewan kids grow

March 31, 2026

For 15 years, Creative Kids has supported Saskatchewan families, helping children facing financial barriers take part in arts and cultural activities.

What began in 2010 as a simple idea from community volunteers to help youth facing barriers access arts and culture has grown into a program that has helped thousands of families access creative opportunities, even during challenging economic times.

Those challenges are especially real today. Saskatchewan has the highest child poverty rate in Canada, with more than 27 per cent of children living in poverty, according to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. As families navigate rising costs and financial strain, programs such as Creative Kids are more important than ever, ensuring children still have the chance to create and feel a sense of belonging.

When a child receives support to participate in arts and cultural lessons, the impact doesn’t end when the class does. Activities such as dance, theatre, music, and cultural lessons give young students a place to grow their skills and passions to the fullest potential. Many former Creative Kids recipients have returned as adults to say that this support put them on a life-changing path to success.

When we say that Creative Kids has funded thousands of children and youth, these aren’t just numbers. These are real lives in our community that have changed because of access to arts and culture.

Unfortunately, we are not able to support every child who applies. Each year, when funds run out, families are turned away. In 2025 alone, 467 kids were left without support due to a funding shortfall of $285,000.

As affordability pressures continue to grow across Saskatchewan, more families are applying for help, and the need is outpacing available funds. This is a difficult reality, but it shouldn’t hold us back from working towards a better future. We remain committed to creating opportunities for as many kids in Saskatchewan as possible, because we believe youth’s access to arts and culture is important to the future of our province. You, our donors, sponsors and supporters, are a key part of this work to close the gap in funding!

Our donors know that, when they support Creative Kids, 100% of the donation goes directly to Saskatchewan children and youth, with zero overhead. This support has a direct impact on local communities, making it possible for more kids to experience the benefits of arts and culture. Every donation can change a life. Join us in building a future where all kids can Shine. Grow. Belong!
