Building a legacy with Co-op
Supporting kids is not only about the immediate results. It is about creating lasting impact for kids, their families, and the community. That’s why Legacy Co-op partnered with Creative Kids for Fuel Good Day this year.
This September marked Creative Kids’ fifth consecutive year as a recipient charity for Co-op Fuel Good Day in Saskatchewan. The Creative Kids team spent the day at Legacy Co-op’s Kamsack location, encouraging people to “Fuel Good.” Throughout the day, Co-ops across the province participated in this annual initiative. In Kamsack, the Co-op hosted a by-donation BBQ lunch, collected cash donations and gave 10 cents from every litre of fuel sold to Creative Kids.

The event raised over $3,500 to support kids’ music lessons, art classes, theatre classes, and dance classes in the Kamsack area.
“We’re happy to be able to partner with Creative Kids for Fuel Good Day this year and to raise money for a worthwhile cause,” says Jessie Huber, marketing manager, Legacy Coop. “Especially in Kamsack, this opens up the opportunity for more kids to enjoy the arts, to enjoy programs such as dance, music, drawing, painting, etc., and gives greater exposure for well-needed, well-rounded programs.”
Fuel Good Day started in 2017 as a way for Co-ops across the province to help the community by supporting local charities and non-profits.
“Co-op has a long history, and Legacy Co-op especially, of supporting kids and supporting community,” Jessie says. “This is where we live, where we work, where we play. Supporting and giving back to those who live here is important to everyday life in the community.”

That community-minded spirit was the highlight of the day, as many community members came out to support the fundraiser and learn about Creative Kids. A group of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) employees from Yorkton, Melville and Regina came out to volunteer, and local radio The Rock 98.5 FM was broadcasting live on site.
Dean Kush, CEO of Creative Kids and SaskCulture, also joined in to help. Having grown up near Kamsack, he describes it as his “second hometown” and enjoyed spending the day connecting with the community.
“It is wonderful that we can organize these events to let more people know about the program. With the help of community partners such as Co-op and RBC, we can reach out to the community to help more kids get the support they deserve,” he says.
Over the past five years, Co-op Fuel Good Day has helped raise over $30,000 in support of Creative Kids. Partnering with Creative Kids, Co-op is staying true to its commitment to community — helping local kids and youth access life-changing opportunities for growth.
